Watch Out For These Diablo 3 Guide Scams!

Diablo 3 is going to be released on May 15th. 11 days left (as of this writing). Everyone is very excited and want to get the jump but don’t forget to watch out for scam guides.

Diablo 3 hasn’t been released but by looking at some of these guides you would think so. One key note to remember: Blizzard does not give guide writers early access to the game. The only one they might give early access to is Brady Games…but we all know how useless those guides usually are.

Am I one of those anti-paid guides people out there? The answer is no, I have spent several hundred dollars on tons of different guides for different games and Diablo 3 isn’t going to be an exception. I have been burned many times before and I don’t want you to fall into the same fate. It really sucks when it happens…I know.

Let’s get the easy ones to spot out of the way first.

Scam Guide #1: Diablo Arena

This guide talks about how an “underground” gamer dominated the PvP arena in 7 days. Do you see what’s wrong with that picture? How about the fact that PvP has been taken out of the game for now? Also, how about how is this even possible when the game hasn’t been released yet.

If you look at the page you will see images of the very old skill tree…that isn’t even being used in the game any more. It also talks about giving great dueling strategies, but yet again dueling isn’t going to be in Diablo 3 when it’s released. I don’t really need to say anything more about this scam guide.

Scam Guide #2: Inferno Gamer

These people sell you an step-by-step leveling guide “in the fastest way possible”. Not sure how they created it since the whole game hasn’t been released yet and no one has seen past level 13. Don’t worry though…that’s not all that’s wrong with this one. At the bottom of the page you will find some testimonials from “other gamers”. These are falsified as no one has been able to play to level 23 and no one has made one penny from the RMAH. These guys need to read up on the FTC’s testimonial guidelines if they want to stay out of trouble.

Scam Guide #3-?: Any power leveling guide

As of right now there is no way for anyone to have the “fastest leveling paths” for D3. It’s impossible, unless they are a Blizzard employee. I don’t know what happens when you buy one of these…do you get an email saying “Sorry, we haven’t made the guide yet” or what? Do they just take your money and run? It’s hard to say, but just watch yourself and don’t fall for the crap.

That pretty much sums up this (rant) post. Basically just be careful of what’s out there and what you buy. Remember, if something looks too good to be true…it probably is.
